About this objectHay rake made from ash and used by Frederick Maybrick, a tenant of Preston Hill Farm, 1940s.
People used scythes to cut grass to dry for hay as animal feed. Rakes were used to move the hay into rows and to turn it over so it dried. Hay knives were used to cut manageable chunks of hay from a large haystack.
